Siftify App — Privacy Policy

About Siftify

Siftify is an AI-powered document analysis mobile application developed by ShoolinTech LLC. It is available on iOS (and Android, coming soon). Siftify allows users to upload, capture, or select documents and receive plain-English summaries using artificial intelligence.

This section supplements the general ShoolinTech Privacy Policy and applies specifically to Siftify users. By using the Siftify app, you agree to this policy.

Data Processed by Siftify

Siftify processes the following types of data:

  • Document content: text extracted from PDFs, images, Word documents, and other files you provide for analysis.
  • Camera and photo library access: used only when you choose to capture or select a document. Images are processed locally and not stored beyond the current session unless you save to history.
  • Microphone access: used only when you activate the voice Q&A feature to ask questions about your document. Audio is converted to text on-device or via the device's speech recognition framework and is not transmitted to ShoolinTech servers.
  • Local history: summaries you generate are optionally stored in the app's local storage (AsyncStorage on your device). This data stays on your device and is not synced to external servers by default.
  • Anonymous usage identifiers: a non-identifiable user ID (Firebase Anonymous Auth) used solely to enforce Terms of Service acceptance — not linked to your identity.

On-Device AI Processing — Our Default

Siftify is designed with privacy-first, on-device AI as its default. Document content is processed locally on your device using a compressed Llama 3.2 language model (approximately 1.2 GB, downloaded once on first use). Your documents are never transmitted to any server during on-device analysis.

When on-device processing is active, the app displays an "On-Device" badge on the result. No document content leaves your phone during these sessions.

Optional Cloud Processing

For certain document types — particularly scanned PDFs and image-based documents that cannot be processed locally — Siftify may offer cloud-based analysis using Google Gemini 2.0 Flash Lite via Firebase Cloud Functions.

Cloud processing is never automatic. Before any document content is transmitted to cloud services, the app displays a clear consent modal explicitly informing you that data will leave your device. You must actively agree before cloud processing proceeds. If you decline, the analysis will not proceed via cloud.

When cloud processing is used:

  • Document content is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS to Firebase Cloud Functions (Google Cloud Platform, US region).
  • The content is processed by Google Gemini AI APIs subject to Google's data processing terms.
  • ShoolinTech does not permanently store your document content on our servers beyond the duration of the API call.
  • Cloud results display a "Cloud" badge so you always know how your document was processed.

Data Siftify Does NOT Collect

  • We do not collect your name, email address, or any personally identifiable information during normal app use.
  • We do not sell your document content or summaries to third parties.
  • We do not use your document content to train AI models.
  • We do not share document content with advertisers or data brokers.
  • We do not build behavioral profiles based on your document usage.

Third-Party Services Used by Siftify

  • Google Firebase (Firestore, Cloud Functions, Anonymous Auth): used for Terms of Service enforcement and optional cloud analysis. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Google Gemini API: used for optional cloud-based document analysis. Subject to Google's AI data usage terms.
  • Apple Speech Recognition (expo-speech-recognition): used for the voice Q&A feature. Governed by Apple's privacy practices.
  • ML Kit (Google, on-device): used for OCR text recognition on scanned pages, processed entirely on-device.

Permissions Requested by Siftify

  • Camera: to capture documents. Only accessed when you tap the camera button. Never accessed in the background.
  • Photo Library: to select existing documents or images. Only accessed when you choose to browse your library.
  • Microphone: for voice Q&A. Only accessed when you activate the voice input button. Never accessed in the background.
  • Network access: required for optional cloud analysis and initial model download.

Data Deletion — Siftify

You can delete your local history at any time within the app (History tab → Delete). This removes all locally stored summaries from your device. Since we do not link your identity to cloud usage, there is no account to delete — the anonymous session identifier resets upon app reinstall.

To request deletion of any data associated with cloud sessions, contact privacy@shoolintechllc.com.

Children's Privacy — Siftify

Siftify is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app is rated 4+ on the App Store for content, but is intended for users who can understand and consent to the Terms of Service (typically 13+).

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we may also provide in-app notifications (for Siftify) or send an email if we have your contact information. Your continued use of our services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
